Created in 2018, Gigantes de Nazaré quickly became a reference in big wave surfing. Today, athletes from all over the world mark in their diaries the date of our challenges.

It is the most popular sport in surfing. Man and machine need to work together, in total harmony, to break barriers and break records. In tow-in, the surfer is pulled (towed, in the literal translation) to the wave by a jet-ski.
Only in the tow-in is it possible to surf the gigantic waves, which exceed 30 meters in height and made Nazaré world-famous.

Root surfing has a place – and a lot – at Gigantes de Nazaré. Since 2020, we have held the Paddling Challenge during the big wave season. Here, there’s no jet-ski to take you on the wave: it’s all in the arm.
Many athletes go to Nazaré exclusively to paddle surf and challenge themselves to the extreme. Surfing mountains of water at 20 meters, with arm strength, is not for everyone.

BIGGEST WAVE IN BRAZIL
Brazil is known for the generation of outstanding surfers that have dominated the regular circuit in recent years. But if you think that the country does not have big waves, you are wrong. Especially in winter, big riders surf “bombs” at 10 meters, which explode from the south to the northeast.
Since 2019, the Gigantes do Brasil Award has been held. Winner and runner-up, after technical evaluation, guarantee prizes of up to 20 thousand reais and a place at Gigantes de Nazaré. In 2021, there were more than 200 waves registered and the “worst cow” in Brazil was also awarded.
